All in Thoughts

The day started in a normal note. The irritating 5.30 am alarm, the brisk morning walk, half an hour of power yoga  and a cup of green tea. All seemed to be so normal and routine, till the time newspaper arrived and I browsed through it. It was the news of an old man dying at the age of 104 years. That’s not a young age to die! This is not the age when you term it a premature dying. Then why it was such a news which made my day a little bit of sub-normal?

The person in news was Manohar Aich, an Indian body builder. The “babuboli” or “pocket Hercules” (a nick name given to him because of his short height) credited simple diet of rice, dal (lentil) and fish for his stunning body. Such a simple lifestyle and such an extraordinary life (Mr. Hercules, Mr. Universe, Winner of World Championship of Spring Pulling, three times Gold winner in Asian Games).

All these regenerated a thought in me, do we really become what we think? 2500 years ago, Gautam Buddha said “you are what you think”; he talked about our subconscious mind and its unfathomable power on our lives. He called it Alay Vigyan, which means the store house of consciousness. This is the part of the mind, where all our believes and experiences are stored and they dictate our life from there. Had that not been the case, how a coconut vendor of Sealdah Railway Station could hit the world platform of bodybuilding!! Aich went to England by raising fund from his bodybuilding shows and stayed back there till he won the Mr. Universe contest in 1952. Determination actually has nothing to do with social and economic security.

And determination comes from Alay Vigyan, the store house of consciousness. When I consciously keep on thinking that I am successful, the success becomes a habit !! When I consciously keep on thinking about positivity, a wholesome environment becomes a routine!! Its all about our thoughts.

Lets make a thoughtful world, a world full of constructive thoughts. Lets make a peaceful and successful world a habit for ourselves.

Protagonist in the Making

They say that when you dream of something, there are 3Vs which may make you closer to your dream – Visualize, Verbalize and Vitalize. Visualization is important for the bigger picture, while by Verbalizing, you close the ways to go backward. Both of these make you bound to Vitalize or enliven your dream. This piece of writing is all about the second ‘V’ – Verbalize. While I had a long-cherished dream of penning down a fiction one day, by verbalizing it today, I want to close all doors behind me so that I cannot escape in anyway. I want you all to point your fingers towards me, if I cannot make within the dreamt timeline. I also want you all, as good friends of mine, to chase me, to question me on the progress, to push me towards the wall so that I complete the fiction in time and go for publishing it. My bouts of writing spells are very irregular and I suffer from ‘Irritable Creative Syndrome’ (ICS), where, I tend to fall prey of creative constipation repeatedly and tend to g...

An Alright Mother

The whole world is in a celebration mood being “mother’s day” today. Consumerism is at its height, hosts of advertisements, reminders, memorabilia flaunting around. All these prompted me to just rethink about my mother. A mother of two children, me being the younger. A working mother, with whom, as a child, I used to go to her school and used to fall fast asleep on her desk in the teachers’ common room. A busy mother, who used to frantically look for her umbrella everywhere in the house, and used to be irritated not finding it while going to her school. A strict mother, who used to gift me a tight slap when I used to fall asleep on my study table. And, an anxious mother, who used to be awake night after night, when I was suffering from nephritis. But as a mother, she is an expert in hiding her feelings. Her philosophy is, ‘show your feeling and spoil the child’. I still remember the day, when I was coming out for joining higher studies. My father urged her to accompany us till r...

Honored Past

Few days back, I was a part of an interview panel for fresh MBAs and I met this girl during the interview, who was an aspirant for the job. Very average looking, smiling, wearing a saree and finding it difficult to handle the Indian dress. Once she cleared the written round, it was time for a personal interaction. We, at the interview panel, started with her family background (I strongly feel the family background is an entirely personal domain and we should not ask about it). She was very candid saying that her father is a helper in a Hindu crematorium and mother works as a sweeper in municipality. She also narrated that all along she has been helped by local social organizations for her studies. Believe me, the occupation of her parents did not generate much enthusiasm in the group, but her pride in declaring the fact, did. She held her head up and replied to questions very confidently. I was wondering about the source of her confidence. It appeared that she is very honored to belon...
